Inauguration of Surface Water Treatment Plants in Kutubdia
On August 19, 2025, NGO Forum for Public Health organized the Inauguration Ceremony of the Surface Water Treatment Plants in Kutubdia.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Mr. Kayathowai Prue Marma, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kutubdia, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Toriqul Islam, Director- Programme Operation, NGO Forum for Public Health welcomed the guests. With the funding support from UNICEF, NGO Forum has successfully constructed four Surface Water Treatment Plants in Kutubdia. These solar-powered facilities are capable of transforming highly saline surface water from nearby canals into clean, safe, and potable drinking water using a 7-stage advanced treatment process.
Water is made available through two innovative distribution methods:
1. Water ATM Booths located at each plant, accessible with user ATM cards.
2. Home delivery of 20-litre jars via battery-powered vans, ensuring doorstep service.
This marks the first-ever installation of such advanced treatment technology in Kutubdia—both in terms of purification capability and accessibility innovation. It represents a significant leap forward in local water infrastructure and a milestone in sustainable, community-focused water solutions.
