Project Objective & Goal :

The Resource Centre Development (RCD) Project was initiated to establish a National Resource Centre (NRC) as a "Centre of Excellence" for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) knowledge in Bangladesh. Funded by IRC Netherlands, the project aimed to strengthen sector-wide knowledge management and improve access to information for development partners, government agencies, NGOs, and communities.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop a centralized hub for WASH-related information, tools, and resources.

  • Promote evidence-based policy and program development.

  • Facilitate learning, networking, and information-sharing among sector actors.

  • Support the decentralization of knowledge to regional and local stakeholders.

Major Components:

  • WatSan Database & Library: Development of a national WASH archive and digital Library Information System (LIS).

  • Research & Documentation: Systematic collection and dissemination of reports, case studies, manuals, and best practices.

  • Capacity Building: Training, internships, and workshops for NGOs and field workers.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Publication of newsletters, policy briefs, and coordination of national dialogue on WASH issues.

 

  • Key Features and Functions of the NRC:

  • Knowledge Repository: The NRC maintains a comprehensive collection of documents, including research papers, policy briefs, training manuals, and case studies related to WASH, health, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. 

  • Capacity Building: Through workshops, seminars, and training programs, the NRC enhances the skills and knowledge of practitioners, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders in the WASH sector.

  • Information Dissemination: The center actively disseminates information through various channels, including publications and digital platforms, to promote best practices and innovative solutions in public health.

  • Networking and Collaboration: By serving as a central point for information exchange, the NRC fosters partnerships among NGOs, government agencies, academic institutions, and international organizations working towards common public health goals.


    Outcomes:

  • A functional National Resource Centre that serves as a key knowledge platform in Bangladesh.

  • Enhanced capacity for NGOs and local actors in WASH planning and implementation.

  • Improved information flow and collaboration among stakeholders in the WASH sector.
